The short version
- We do not collect your data. Altitude has no accounts, no servers, no ads, no analytics and no trackers. All measurements, photos and settings live on your iPhone.
- Your location never leaves your device. It is used only to show your elevation and to stamp the watermark you chose onto photos you take.
- You control the watermark. Choose exact coordinates, place name only, or hide location completely on every photo.
- Delete the app and everything is gone. There is nothing stored anywhere else.
1. Overview
Altitude (“the app”) is developed by [Developer legal entity] (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is processed, and the choices you have. It applies to the Altitude app for iOS available on the Apple App Store.
The app is built to work entirely on your device. It has no backend servers and no third-party software development kits (SDKs). We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information — because we do not collect it.
2. Data processed on your device only
The following information is processed locally on your iPhone and is never transmitted to us or to any third party:
Location (GPS)
Used to compute your current elevation, coordinates, and — if you enable it — a place name for the photo watermark. Location is accessed only while the app is in use. We do not store location history, and we do not transmit it anywhere.
Barometer & motion
The iPhone's built-in barometer provides relative elevation changes (cumulative ascent/descent) and air pressure. This sensor data stays on your device.
Camera & photos
Photos you take in the app are rendered with watermarks on your device. They are saved to your photo library only when you tap save, using the “add to library” permission. The app does not read, upload or back up your photos.
Settings & preferences
Your choices (units, watermark options, location precision, etc.) are stored locally on your device using Apple's standard storage system.
3. Services provided by Apple
Two Apple system features involve communication outside the app:
- Place-name lookup (geocoding). When the watermark shows a place name (e.g. “Swiss Alps, Switzerland”), the app uses Apple's built-in geocoding service. That service is operated by Apple, and queries are handled under Apple's Privacy Policy. If you prefer, you can set the watermark to coordinates only or hide location entirely, which avoids place-name lookups.
- Crash diagnostics. If the app crashes, Apple may deliver anonymized crash reports to us through Apple's MetricKit so we can fix problems. These reports do not contain your location, your photos, or information that identifies you.
4. Photos you share
When you share a watermarked photo or an altitude card, you choose the destination using the iOS share sheet. Once a photo leaves the app, it is governed by the policies of the service you shared it to (for example Instagram, WhatsApp or Messages).
To keep your location private when sharing, use Settings → Location detail and choose place name only or hidden. Whatever you choose is stamped permanently into the photo, so check it before posting.
5. What we don't do
- We don't require an account — there is no sign-up of any kind.
- We don't show ads or use advertising networks.
- We don't use analytics, tracking or profiling tools.
- We don't embed third-party SDKs that can access your data.
- We don't sell or rent personal information — we have none to sell.
- We don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't respond to “do not track” signals because we engage in no tracking.
6. Permissions you control
| Permission | Why it's asked | Revoke it in |
|---|---|---|
| Location (while using) | Show your elevation and stamp it on photos | Settings → Altitude → Location |
| Camera | Take watermarked photos | Settings → Altitude → Camera |
| Add to Photo Library | Save your photos to your library | Settings → Altitude → Photos |
| Motion & Fitness | Read the barometer for elevation changes and air pressure | Settings → Altitude → Motion & Fitness |
Every feature that needs a permission asks only when you use that feature, and the app degrades gracefully if you say no.
7. Data retention & deletion
We operate no servers, so we hold no copies of your data. Photos, settings and measurements exist only on your device. Deleting the app — or revoking its permissions in iOS Settings — removes everything permanently.
8. Children's privacy
Altitude is a general-purpose tool, is rated 4+ on the App Store, and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because no data is collected at all, no child's data can be processed.
9. Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA and similar laws)
If you are in the EU/EEA, the UK, California or anywhere else with data-protection laws, you have rights such as access, correction, deletion and portability of your personal data. In Altitude's case, we do not collect or hold any personal data, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, delete or transfer. All of your data is already under your control, on your device.
If you have any privacy question or complaint, contact us at zhysda@126.com and we will respond promptly.
10. Security
Because your data never leaves your device, it is protected by iOS system security, including on-device encryption when your iPhone is locked. There are no remote servers for us to secure — or to breach.
11. Changes to this policy
If a future version of Altitude ever adds features that change this picture (for example, optional cloud backup or analytics), we will update this policy, change the “Last updated” date, and request any new permission transparently before that data is collected. The version of this policy in force is the one published at this page.
